@mariom actually… the electricity in Denmark has been effectively free for the last two days as it’s been so windy! Electricity prices change on a daily basis so people can plan when to do their washing etc.
Also means people have been running their cars for free!
@mariom Sorry to say these numbers are not true. They were based on an anomalous snapshot from a European spot pricing site (see pic), and don’t represent price to customers. Look at EPEXspot market data at any other time and you will get completely different results.
@judisutherland @mariom yes, agreed. But it’s kind of splitting hairs. The bottom line is that the UK is paying way more for its energy than our European neighbours.
@axelino @judisutherland The point is, cold hard figures are more convincing than just saying we pay more.
@axelino @mariom it’s not ‘splitting hairs’. It’s the difference between truth and lies. Don’t we want to be accurate and believable?
@judisutherland @mariom I think you’re missing my point. I started my toot saying I agreed with you. That’ll do for now, have a great day 🙂
@axelino @mariom
You think you can make a good point without any facts?

@judisutherland @mariom

As you say, the figures are totally misleading.

Here is a screenshot from the same source showing the UK prices at £208 instead of £2585

@mariom @Concretism overlooking the dubious nature of the exact figures, a tax on the profits isn’t a solution. It’s just a stealth tax on the consumer and says that the high energy prices are valid, and not just price gouging.

A better solution is a regulator with teeth and a price cap that actually works, and the best solution is the renationalisation of the energy companies to remove shareholder value from the entire equation

@iain @mariom Oh absolutely, they should be re-nationalised.
