Maybe that’s too facile? The pursuit of anything that will maintain their power makes sense to me, but I agree the timing is interesting. Hmmm.
This is merely speculation, but I think:
A) Among tech-VC types, there seems to be a hive mind mentality, so if a member of this "in-group" articulates this point of view, it's likely been discussed behind closed doors beforehand. Don't forget, Thiel and Elleson are prominent members of this club, and knowing their recent political leanings and providers, this isn't surprising.
B) The overtly anti educational shift happened around the same time workplaces started organizing.
