There's a lot of linguistic cross-definition conflict around words like "abstract" and "reductionism" in different discursive traditions.

For example some circles take "abstract" to mostly mean "lossy" or "imprecisely defined" whereas others take it to mean "any claim of consistency/universalization/generalization from particulars"

Similarly "reductionism" is variantly taken as "radical analysis completely describing root dynamics" and "a simplifying account that erases everything of import".

@rechelon @bcham i see that you are implying, without stating, that a radical analysis completely describing root dynamics is not a simplifying account that erases (almost) everything of import. however, it is. which, is fine. every concept erases almost everything. at least "completely" describing root dynamics has the clarity it has. 5/5 would buy again

anyway i think you people are in denial that concepts erase almost everything? have you heard of 'representation' as a word for things which do not erase everything?

@aml_blast @bcham

You people who have this analysis are completely ignorant of compression dynamics and basic mathematics. The exact same formula mapping the exact same relations can be written in a condensed or an arbitrarily expanded form. The condensed form expressed EXACTLY the same relations and structures, but does so succinctly. This is an example of perfect informational compression. Compression in representation can wildly vary in fidelity and accuracy.

@rechelon @bcham

No, I have a background in computer sciences and mathematics, I have spent a lot of time working with set theory, type theory, kolmogorov complexity, etc. Notably, an arbitrarily expanded form can require more bits to describe than a condensed form. I realized a few years back that the form is actually relevant, that working in a haze of compression algorithms is actually forgetting most of what is happening

When you hold your attention laser focused on some structures, compression does what it says it does and nothing more has to be forgotten because you've already forgotten almost everything. But there are more things in heaven and earth

If you ask me for an example, hm, oh I've got a question for you! All the examples of means of awareness of what I'm talking about could be described as awareness of infinite chaos. Have you embodied an awareness that could be described that way and how would you describe it? (to be more specific, any competent buddhist tradition practices some fast path to such awareness, but it is not like they have a monopoly)

I would like to ask you more questions, but all I am hearing is the idea that I must be ignorant of basic mathematics. Maybe you would like to ask me a question? Ah, people in filter bubbles are usually there because they have excluded people outside the bubble as worth any curiosity (it's an easy test! pick what doesn't make sense about what i am saying and ask! i am making fun of people who have got stuck in filter bubbles, yes :p)

@aml_blast @bcham

Of course an expanded "form" takes more bits to describe than a condensed form, that's the whole benefit of condensing. The condensed form contains all the underlying structural relationships that refer to anything. The *description* is not contentful or something that we're trying to compress.

@rechelon @saddestrobots it's really fun how when I say something you pretend I didn't say that and said something idiotic instead. welp, filter bubbles

@aml_blast @rechelon
did you seriously tag me into a completely unrelated conversation to complain about a dismissive reply i wrote two weeks ago?

lol. lmao.
