It is the same in Canada, regrettably.
Sir John A McDonald, the first prime minister, supported the residential school system, resulting in cultural genocide, the deaths of many, many children, and massive and irreparable intergenerational trauma.
It is a permanent stain on this country. By definition, my ancestors and I are colonizers, but I am doing my best to be an ally and support the aspirations of decolonization, reparations, and reconciliation.
