That’s shown by the Tate mess.
Musk let him back on. And so, for two days when we should have been focused on #Trump’s tax returns and Ginni #Thomas transcripts, instead the whole news cycle has been about the travails of an incel misogynist influencer.

I hope Tate pays consequences for his crimes and also his hateful rhetoric is banished forever. But Musk and Thiel are succeeding in using Twitter for rightwing goals.

@protecttruth It's an interesting question, though: the value of "winning on Twitter" is changing, isn't it?

Twitter could be a win for Musk, or it could be just another case of an "important" social service becoming irrelevant.

If Twitter is going to make money for Elmo, or even just feed into his pretend success narrative, I'm just not going to be there. What value -- what positive -- comes from "defend Twitter" rather than "fuck you, I'm going somewhere else?"

@protecttruth they're showing themselves for what they are, but I'm not sure I'd call that winning. We like to convince ourselves that the appetite for this kind of hate is much smaller than it really is, but those are the people being influenced.

@protecttruth Moral victories and public shamings are fun, but they aren't the victories we need to end the problem.

Low level scum getting arrested and jailed is also fun, but also not the victories we need to end the problem.

I think it's good to just enjoy fun stuff that happens sometimes, but yeah, we need to remember that the stakes are much higher. Thanks for reminding us.
