i always have to remind people that the actual KKK conducted a march in my town in PA as recently as 1980. Segregation is so recent, my parents actively participated in it.

They'd hoped that I'd be part of it too. I'm in my mid-30s, and a lot of my peers think it's ancient history.

The literal KKK had a rally in my sleepy middle class hometown in central Michigan in 1996. It wasn’t huge but big enough that I remember it happening on Main Street a few feet from where Santa sits every Christmas at the Courthouse.
