@marcelias

The fact remains:

There's *still* no replacement for #twitter in terms of rapid #news dissimination, citizen #journalism, social movements, etc.

#Mastodon isn't it atm. For many reasons, Mastodon's growth is limited. There's an expectation/hope that Mastodon will change, bc there's misguided belief that it wants to be the new twitter.

In any case, what mattters is that nothing is filling the void.

And that's a big f'n problem.

@zarton @marcelias

Even before Musk trashed it, #Twitter was already a "void" ("in terms of rapid #news dissimination, citizen #journalism, social movements, etc.").

Gamification, bots, ads and the rise of the "main character" were, and remain, toxic to the public perception of worthwhile news. Without these deficiencies the shape of public discourse will change, as it must.

I'm a #journalist and I think that with good tech and media leadership, this platform has a real shot.

@maria @zarton @marcelias I agree. Twitter population tend to be aggressive and hateful. Arguments are reduced to exchanges of ugly words and GIFs . Ridiculing “the other” is a norm. But Mastodon is too complicated. If I accomplish anything, it’s by pure chance.

@sodalis @zarton @marcelias

Maybe it seems kind of 'shouting into the void' because the tools and conventions are so unfamiliar. We'll make new and better ones too, once we figure out how to drive this thing.

@maria @marcelias it could be if changes are made...but my point is that it isn't now, and we need a replacement asap

@zarton @marcelias

No not a replacement, don't use #twitter as a model!

We need to design a whole new kind of ride, that's just what I'm sayin
