via Ben Jacobs over on the bird app re: João Félix

My opinion on the João Félix situation is this:

The loan Atleti is currently offering is, relatively speaking, dirt cheap. Even if there's no obligation/option to buy...WHO CARES. Get him in the squad for the spring run.

He's not happy at Atleti. If you bring him on now, the chances of him turning in to Odegaard 2.0 is EXTREMELY high IMO. Just get him in the door and figure it out later. You want talented players on your team.

DISCLAIMER: If Arteta/EDU disagree with me my opinion becomes null and void.
@mattlacasse 😄👍
@GrindItOut They've earned enough street cred I think.

@mattlacasse Well I would say most definitely 😄 …..

Arteta and Edu’s biggest deals:

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 White £50m
🇬🇭 Partey £45m
🇧🇷 Jesus £45m
🇳🇴 Odegaard £30m
🇺🇦 Zinchenko £30m
🇵🇹 Vieira £30m
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Ramsdale £24m
🇧🇷 Gabriel £23m

@GrindItOut When it's laid out like that it's amazing how relatively cheap we've gotten some of these guys for.
@mattlacasse Ødegaard alone is stunning 🤩
@GrindItOut It's not that Arteta/Edu are beyond reproach, but anyone that is screaming for their heads at this point is an instant mute/block for me.

@GrindItOut @mattlacasse Brilliant deals, except Vieira at this point. So no complains there.

I'd still take into counting, that the likes of Willian, Mari, Cedric & Runarsson were signed.

And more so, just terminating contracts/release & get rid of the likes of Auba, Özil, Sokratis, Mustafi, Mkhitaryan, Bellerin or selling full France int'l Guendouzi for a tenner..

@hente @mattlacasse Agreed but Özil et al were stable cleaning/ others mistakes

@hente @GrindItOut Jury is still out on Vieira for sure but to my untrained eye he's heading in the right direction. I think Arteta/Edu are on the same page now. Once they've clicked their success rate has been pretty high.

Definitely took some time to get, uh, the riffraff out. And that goes for the front office as well.

@mattlacasse @hente Vieira very young - just look at The Arteta Effect on Saka/Martinelli/Eddie. All had talent but these boys been #Coached
@mattlacasse This is basically how I've approached all of my transfer opinions for the past year or so. 😂 Arteta, Edu, and co. have earned our trust in their scouting abilities.
@Goonerworks Fully prepared to wear this gif if needed:
@mattlacasse I think Felix is relatively cheap… but his wages would be like €300k a week. I’m like you, but reverse. I’m not completely sold on the idea of a short term Joao Felix loan. But if Edu & Arteta want him in, I’ll take it. 😬
@AFCscott I get it. He's expensive, but how Atleti are pedaling him right now means you're not on the hook for him past May. He improves the squad, but if for some reason he doesn't fit you're under no obligation to keep him. Low risk/high reward. And if he clicks, you have the inside track to a permanent transfer come the summer. Worry about wages then when you (likely) have UCL cash.
@mattlacasse Yeah. I’d rather use that money to secure a contract for a permanent player… Mudryk, Saka, Saliba, etc.. Rather than try to work in a temp player on 300k a week. Even one like Felix. Jesus should hopefully be back by end of Feb/beginning of May. But if Mikel thinks Felix is the right move. I’ll back him.
@AFCscott @mattlacasse smart thing would be to use Felix to get Mudryk on a favourable deal. Or vise versa.
@mattlacasse
I thought the loan fee and wages were meant to be high.
