In this video from 1988 we hear Col. Jack Mohr complain about how the media has brainwashed Americans into thinking that Christian Patriots like him are a threat to America. I mean, just because he spoke at an event at the Aryan Nations compound, people in the "controlled media" say he's an antisemite and a white supremacist. Can you believe it? https://youtu.be/J9TzP8gztrc

Mohr was a leading Christian Identity preacher and violent far right extremist who had close ties to the people who murdered Alan Berg. The Oregonian I'm writing researching, Walter Huss, was a great admirer of Jack Mohr's.
Fast forward to April 2022 and here's the intro to a show by a contemporary, pro-Trump "Christian Patriot." Note how he frames the present moment as the logical result of a 200 year (i.e., illuminati) conspiracy against the US that is about to be blown apart by Jesus. This show was recorded at the Oregon iteration of Michael Flynn's Christian Nationalist/Election Denial Reawaken America tour. One of the speakers there was Eric Trump. https://youtube.com/watch?v=7ZyxqRe9MUY&si=EnSIkaIECMiOmarE

One of the people interviewed on that show was Julie Green, a leading figure in the New Apostolic Reformation movement who regularly speaks with God, and also has appeared a few times with Eric Trump on various podcasts and also in Oregon at the Reawaken Tour. Here she states that as a patriot who loves America, she's glad to hear that God intends to destroy the Statue of Liberty and the Capitol City of Washington DC. Because freedom. https://youtu.be/uGsd9SzDzvg

The key takeaway here is that these Christian Patriots fucking hate America. They hate it. They want to see DC destroyed. They want anyone who's not a Christian to leave. Some of them, like Mohr, want anyone who's not white to leave. They hate the idea of America being a religiously pluralistic, multi-racial democracy and they're willing to, oh, I don't know, storm the US Capitol to stop it.
I highly recommend this multi-part series on the New Apostolic Reformation by Matthew Taylor. It's a deep dive into the theology and politics behind the movement that forms the white hot center of Trump's white evangelical base. While these people sound completely bonkers to the vast majority of their fellow Americans, it all makes perfect sense to them. https://radiopublic.com/straight-white-american-jesus-G24pby/s1!80125
I have many thoughts about that podcast that I'll save for later...but one key insight that emerges is that the media (& also the January 6 committee) has been woefully underprepared to understand & talk knowledgeably about the religious dimensions of the MAGA movement & its profound radicalism. We can't let people who glory in the thought of Washington DC being demolished by God get away with calling themselves "Christian Patriots" without any pushback. These folks hate what America has become.
Remember when an out of context recording of Obama’s minister saying “God damn America” was all the rage on Fox News? Imagine if a Biden-supporting minister was talking gleefully about how God was going to blow up the Statue of Liberty and the Washington monument. It’s unthinkable, because Democrats tend to actually like the US and its citizens and want good things for them.

Have been thinking about this for a while but, it's a political movement that uses religious language to rationalize its obsession with revenge and loss of power. There's no underlying tangible philosophy other than vindictive grievances.
