“Tesla Autopilot crash numbers are far higher than those of similar driver-assistance systems from GM and Ford. To be comparable with Ford’s rate, Tesla ought to have a NHTSA-reported crash total of 70 since last summer. Instead Tesla reported 516 crashes.”https://www.latimes.com/business/story/2022-12-27/tesla-stopped-reporting-autopilot-safety-statistics-online
Tesla stopped reporting its Autopilot safety numbers online. Why?

Around the same time that Tesla stopped self-reporting Autopilot safety stats, its crash rates were soaring far higher than those of its competitors.

@owasow can hardly believe people even trust Autopilot. We have a model 3, and it’s absolutely a fantastic car. But I never use autopilot, it is simply not good. It requires more attention than when you are driving yourself.
@owasow Tesla : "yea thats cause Fords aren't cool enough for people to want to fuck inside on camera for Tiktok likes"

@hammancheez @owasow I can believe that. Inattentiveness and complacency of a "Tesla driver" is rapidly becoming the automotive equivalent of "Florida Man".

Which begs the question: how much is this due to the software and degraded sensor package (now only optical), and how much is users insistence on using self-driving features when they shouldn't?

Perhaps this is all part of his longtermist eugenics - literally drive a large part of the population off a cliff one day?

@enmodo @hammancheez @owasow HAHAHA man has no apex predators but himself? Hold my beer. <Thanos snap>
@kurtsh @hammancheez @owasow I'm holding so many beers now I'm over qualified for a job as an Oktoberfest waiter.
@owasow that is some bad writing, wow.

@owasow

Dear [email protected] please get these fucking things off the road, thanks.

@owasow that’s disappointing. Was hoping for the opposite.

@owasow

I have to think that both Twitter and Tesla are doomed. Musk's narcissism will prevent the development of quality because he fires anyone who offends his narcissism, meaning anyone who contradicts him. He also lies, which transportation regulators are going to latch onto at some point.

Oh, and sales are dropping because progressive-minded people are rejecting his politics, and he is inextricably linked to Teslas.

@owasow too bad so many investors and Tesla owners failed to realize #ElonMuskIsATurd is a con artist and a proven repeat offender liar.

Elon Musk Promised 1 Million Tesla Robotaxis by the End of 2020. Where Are They?

Regulatory challenges aren't the only obstacle to this very lofty goal.

@owasow I wonder if these stats are being reported on twitter?!!

@owasow Tesla's buyers/users may be part of the problem, but it's also in how the feature is described and marketed.

GM and Ford have "driver assistance".

Teslas have "autopilot".

Those terms do *not* mean the same thing to a reasonable (but nontechnical) person, and many people totally think that Tesla's Autopilot is different and inherently more capable, because it's marketed so much less cautiously. Even the UI contributes.

Just the term 'Autopilot' writes a check #Tesla can't cash.

@owasow This is not a fair comparisson. While Autopilot is used for a far higher percentage if the drive, the number of crashes will be higher, but this does not mean it is less safe. Thats why the metric 'miles per accident' makes so much more sense, and even then Tesla would be in a disadvantage, as they allow their System to be used on more dangerous roads (where also human drivers have a lot of crashes)
@owasow I wonder are those are the same software engineers now brought to Twitter? So not now improving Tesla, as Twitter goes down the tubes
@owasow I guess it's time too rebuild the whole stack?
