After only one year of Taliban rule, girls and women have almost disappeared from Afghan society. They are not allowed to travel, to work alone, to go to public parks, to talk or laugh in public, and they are not allowed to study and to go to school... Photo: Boushra Almutawakel
@baarda "Religion poisons everything"- Hitch
@Ponygirl
Not religion but extremism
@baarda
@JCF @Ponygirl @baarda The OP was right. Religion is a human construct designed to oppress
@sirloinstake
Actually a religion is made to find answers to the inexplicable, the magic, a way of life, the meaning of life. With religion cames habits and coutumes, celebrations (just see solstice pagan celebrations)... But also extremism wich open the door to hate, opression, etc.
@Ponygirl @baarda
@JCF @Ponygirl @baarda If you put it like that, science is the new religion and God (in whatever shape or form) has no place in it

@sirloinstake
No because a religion suggest also a part of mysticism (spirits, gods, places), legends (heroes, stories, places too) and as I said, a way of life, habits and coutumes, so culture to (food, dress, etc). And TRY to explain inexplicable...

Science is made of facts and History, allow understand "why" with clues, improve the life and possibilities (medicine, engineering etc).
Transfom Magic is not magic because (explanations and comprehention)...

@Ponygirl @baarda

@sirloinstake

Magic is just science that we don't understand. And science that we don't understand can be TRY to be explain by religion as "it is God' Will"

@Ponygirl @baarda

@JCF @sirloinstake @baarda "Real magic is fake, and fake magic is real" -Matt Dillahunty
@Ponygirl
And when magic is understood, it is not magic anymore neither religion thing... It becomes science
@sirloinstake @baarda
@JCF @sirloinstake @baarda I think I agree with this, but I can't think of anything religious that has become science. Any examples?

@Ponygirl
Meteorological and geological facts for example. πŸ˜‰

@sirloinstake @baarda

@JCF @sirloinstake @baarda Maybe some wonder emanated from religious teachings, but people investigated irregardless of religion.
@Ponygirl @JCF @baarda and were vilified for it, you only have to take Galileo as one example

@sirloinstake
For a matter of power, I agree.
And some people want also destroy what is misunderstood.

Actually science and religion are corrosive to each other

But now some religions have a kind of assembly of scientists well known, estimated.

Β«Since along time, we though science will throw religious function, but It was a mistakeΒ» H. Reeves

@Ponygirl @baarda

@JCF @Ponygirl @baarda They also want to destroy what is understood if it corrupts others against their way of thinking

@sirloinstake
I'm sorry but, can't you see the positive ?
I mean, religion, as life, has bad sides... And good too. If you can only see the bad, when could you see the good, in the life too? And how could you be happy?

I am not praticant, and I know the disasters of religionS. But I also know their benefits.
In our time, just think about Mother Theresa or the AbbΓ© Pierre (πŸ‡¨πŸ‡΅ both) and what they've done for humanity.
And I'm sure their equivalements exists in all religions.

@Ponygirl @baarda

@JCF @Ponygirl @baarda Man doesn't need religion to have a moral code, just decent education and some semblance of humanity, and I have no need for any form of God. I see the good and bad sides of life, and have lived through some of them There was no one guiding me through it. Just me and myself. And trust me I have been to some very dark places in my mind. I care primarily about myself and those I choose to let into my life, but I also care about humanity without the need to signal it
