We (w/@donmoyn) argue in the Post that Flexible Savings Accounts are confusing, difficult to use, and enact a high time tax. They’re also benefits that skew to the highest earners.

How a tool that’s supposed to help you save could be wasting your time

It's not just that you have to use it or lose it. The flexible savings account is a regressive benefit that wastes time and money.

The Washington Post

@pamela_herd FSAs are absurd and AFAICT were designed to create profits from the fact that nobody has time to fully mind their FSA; e.g. their source of income is mistakes made by the recipients, even though their job is to *prevent mistakes*.

When I do my FSA every year it's obviously something that would be simpler as a tax deduction but as you say, tax deductions don't provide benefit to the people who need it most. either way there is no excuse for FSAs to exist in their current form.

@pamela_herd And only 40% of employers even offer dependent care FSAs! Which is great because childcare is so affordable already.
