Monuments in the Making . . runs with evidence showing lack of encasing mound over and on dolmens . . suggesting instead surrounds of stone spread & low cairns . . pointing towards stand alone architectural orthostats & capstone . . recommend read from me . . #MonumentsInTheMaking #neolithic #TombTuesdays #Dolmen #standingstone #megalithic #megalithictomb #ChamberedTomb #PassageGrave
@cagedbeatnik always found this a fascinating debate. Craig Weatherhill did some great speculative drawings of Cornish Quoits with a cairn covering the lower part but the megalithic structure exposed.
@thesweetcheat . . it is fascinating indeed . . got a few bits of good reading to work thru’ . . (any recommendations also appreciated) . . just getting to the ‘raised in situ’ bit . . thanks for the chambered tomb Scilly photo post . . definitely covered . . will check out the Craig Weatherhill link - ta . .

@cagedbeatnik here are a couple of pictures. The first is of Zennor Quoit from Craig Weatherhill's Cornovia (essential), the other is by Andy Norfolk and shows Chûn Quoit, it's from Cheryl Straffon's West Penwith guide.

Bonus #torc for @tess_machling in the latter.

@thesweetcheat @cagedbeatnik bonus torc?? 🤣🤣🤣
@tess_machling @cagedbeatnik well, if you want to make the whole picture about the torc that's up to you 🤣
@thesweetcheat @cagedbeatnik OF COURSE! BTW what else was in the pic? 😉😘
