Can't stop thinking about this person who made the distinction on TikTok between old school social media for being in touch with your friends and making new ones, and "performative" social media where the point is to reach people you don't know.
I think some of the friction between OG mastodonians and the #twitterExodus is that the former were trying to recreate old school, but the latter are coming for performative and angry that it's not built for that

I see no problem --
if the "Fediverse" doesn't suit one's requirements, seek another format 🐘
@Papablue sure, but Mastodon is being pushed as a twitter alternative, with some even arguing it's the ethical thing to do to ditch Elon's nest for mastodon, while ignoring the differences between them.

@Dubikan @Papablue a friend who is a book publisher talked to me about it. She uses Twitter both to publish her books and to maintain personal connections.

We had to sadly agree that Mastodon isn't good for her, as the ability to promote her books here is nearly non-existent.

@NadavPV @Papablue but if twitter ends up just people trying to push something talking with nobody listening, twitter would be no good for anyone, or it would end up a shitty platform for customer service. The "selling" function is parasitic on other functions (unlike the activism function, that is interactive anyway).
