Ken White#FirstAmendment #FreeSpeech It’s time for me to update by “Free Speech Tropes” post, written previously for Popehat and Atlantic, that identifies common slogans/cliches/arguments about the First Amendment that are wrong or misleading — like “fire in a crowded theater” and “hate speech is not free speech.” I have some new ones to add to the mix (like “it’s in the school handbook so it’s not a First Amendment issue”) but taking suggestions for other common bad arguments/tropes/slogans.
