On Christmas Eve Putin says he’s “ready to negotiate.”
Having “negotiated” w/ Russian military & Defense Ministry I learned lessons: Even in small things, RU officials don’t negotiate…they demand, then they lie, and then they renege on agreements.
@markhertling We call it "Russian diplomatical school" 🤣
@mvocu @markhertling Russian politicians and diplomacy – sounds like an oxymoron to me.

@markhertling
The Russians only understand strength, and only respond to cruelty.
@markhertling "Can I convince you to fight back less, at least for a while."

@markhertling

What is the point of negotiating with a country that repeatedly lies about cease-fires?

@markhertling What's there to negotiate? They just need to get the h*** out of Ukraine they shouldn't be there.
@markhertling They could simply leave and save everyone the heartache, pain, misery and money. By leaving now, they could still maintain the illusion of having technically good equipment.
@WCRaiderEVO80 @markhertling I believe that ilisusion is shattered by now.
@markhertling @lavndrblue exactly. For those thinking you are exaggerating, oldie but good read negotiating with Russians by Raymond Dennet. It’s not dated, at all. However, he wants a pause…why I keep mentioning the end of WW1. None could trust the Germans either.
@markhertling I’m of the mindset. RU will always be looking for a pivot point or ‘down the road’ change of plans. Their record of going back on negotiated issues is legendary. Just take the issue of Nuc’s and Ukraine at the end of Cold War! “Lifetime protection.” !!!
BTW, nice beach ware Mark!
@markhertling Putin has nothing to negotiate, he needs to get out of Ukraine
@markhertling Strangely enough in hindsight, that was less the case with the Soviet Union. The principles in the Helsinki Final Act (of the CSCE) set the parameters for security in Europe from 1975 until 2014 or arguably later. Putin’s invasion of Crimea and more recently Ukraine tore up the agreement signed by HOSG from NATO, Warsaw Pact and European Neutrals - which was not legally binding but was observed by all.
@johnbiggar Not to mention the Budapest Memorandum too.
@markhertling sounds like any negotiation then 😉
