This video sums up the problem of racism, inequality, and policing in #Buffalo.

People are taking basic necessities like toilet paper and water. In the poorest neighborhood of the poorest mid-sized city in the USA. Many East Side residents can't afford to stock emergency supplies.

And while people freeze in their homes, police are busy spreading copaganda about looting instead of saving lives. The police officer's attitude is just...🤬

First responder heard over the scanner just now:

"There's a lotta refugees on this street. You'd think we live in freakin' Africa or something."

Anyone recording the scanner? I need an audio of that clip immediately. Going to work on it ASAP.

The blatant racism on display this past weekend is unacceptable and there better be some accountability.

Update: WNY snowplow drivers with the disgusting racist commentary.

When the storm clears, I'm gonna need Buffalo to start asking questions and speaking truth to power.

Why were emergency communications only in English?

What attempts - if any - were made to warn our newcomer neighbors before the storm?

What role did racism play in priorities and decision-making?

@jonielena
All we got downstate was the family who took in 10 stranded Korean tourists headed for Niagara Falls. Sounded so lovely - NY's "Come From Away"...
@jonielena did they mean it in terms of racism against the citizens or in terms of disdain for the failure of state capacity in the richest nation on earth to care for its citizens?
@CatDragon @jonielena yea? first responders cant disdain for the failure of the state?
@NLAWScametovisit @jonielena
Racism is not your intellectual exercise. Go elsewhere with that.
@CatDragon @jonielena says the woman listening to other people struggle to deal with a disaster and then complaining about it.
@NLAWScametovisit @jonielena sorry , I missed what you said, I was too busy donating to NYSUT.
Enjoy your day.
@jonielena My first boyfriend in College was from Huntington Park. The cops in the 80s were so “competent,” they routinely and literally shot themselves in the foot. I doubt anything has improved. It’s just a body in a uniform for the sake of saying there’s a police force.
@jonielena "copaganda" is a fantastic word.
@jonielena that's not what's happening here at all. Police, fire, and other emergency workers - including National Grid- can't get to residents or electrical substations because main roads are choked with abandoned cars. There's 4 feet of snow that can't get removed because of that.
