One of my favourite moments in the far north. Had planned this two years in advance for the perfect moon and solar scenario. Moonlight auroras are my jam, but you need a decent showing to compete with the moon.

We'd had a lot of great showings that year, but this one was extra extra special. After standing out in the cold for an hour, we headed inside for hot chocolate and a jolly good laugh.

@ewen That's beautiful. One of my biggest dreams to spend the season of polar nights in the north and experience aurora borealis. 🤍

@marina

Tromsø is such a great place to see it. The aurora circle lands right over the region so even a low level solar event can turn into a stunning aurora event. And it's easy to fly into and get about.

When I run photo trips up north I expect three really great nights out of two weeks. But the closer you are to Tromso that rate doubles. One year we had 19 evenings we shot aurora out of 21.

Anyway, some folk fly in for a weekend and miss it, so staying longer is good!
