So it took the better part of the week, two ISP tech visits, a complete refresher course on fiber technology, 48 hours of hunting for a stupid configuration mistake (RTFM level), but I managed to get a 2.5gbps line to run on my own hardware.
Lessons learned:
1. You can't get most SFP+ cards to run at 2.5G even if the SFP module supports it.
2. CRS305 can switch really well, but you need hardware offload and that will only work for ONE bridge.
3. You can pull an OM4 pre-terminated duplex fiber through a wall conduit used by a phone line, if you stagger the connectors and pull the phone cable out.
