OK, #moodle users. Has anyone done asynchronous #projectbasedlearning with Moodle? I would love to chat!
@birv2 I've done asynchronous in Moodle, although not exactly project based learning. I think Moodle works OK for async, depending on what you want it to do and what features you have access to in your Moodle instance.
@olsen Could you share a bit about the course you offered asynchronous with Moodle?
@birv2 sure. My current course is a MS level data science python programming course. I use the "lesson" activity to give material to learn, including "check your understanding" questions throughout written or video explanations. I mostly like the lessons, especially because I can use regular expressions to check answers on the questions. I also use the forum for discussion, although it's one of my least favorite forum setups that I've used.
@olsen Thank you for the detailed response! I'm at the other end of the ed spectrum, ie: MS to me = Middle School. And I do entirely PBL stuff. So for instance, to teach game coding, they create a game (Python, Scratch, Minecraft) and learn stuff as needed as they go. I provide support and answers along the way (video, handouts). I'm playing with Moodle to see if that would support that mode of learning.
Thanks again!

@birv2 haha MS is a confusing acronym isn't it.

You can definitely share handouts and materials easily. Feedback is easy in an assignment, but not great for code feedback. We use GitHub classroom for our undergrads and jupyterhub for our masters students, but I'm not sure either is really worth the time for getting up and running in middle school.

@olsen I've had some success with CodingRooms. I know some of the people there, and it's a pretty cool platform, allowing co-coding, etc. I'm not sure if it would be suitable for people at your level.
I did get Moodle installed and running on my personal website, so I"m playing with it a bit. Also investigating MoodeUS for hosting in the future if necessary. Best of the season to you, and thanks for being willing to chat!
@birv2 good luck! I'll have to look into coding rooms, always curious about new options!
