TBH I was trying to lay off QRTs on Twitter. In an artist’s context, QRTs often took engagement away from artists and put it in the hands of the people that QRT’d. People already don’t click more than they have to so a big account QRTing you for support might do less good than just retweeting.

If implemented here I think measures would need to be taken to be protective of the person being quote boosted. Help ensure they’re kept in that engagement instead of excluded.

Okay so to expand on this, ideas I have that might make things better for quote boosts,

1: Include the ability for the person being boosted to be included in the conversations like they would if they had been normally boosted. This way they can see what people are saying and participate in the conversation.

2: Regardless of it's positive uses, I have seen QRTs used as a weapon against the marginalized. Yeah, that might come with a potentially larger reach than they previously had but it still also requires them to wade through a sea harassment and death threats.

People should be allowed to consent to their posts being quote boosted. I realize this won't please everyone, but nobody wants to deal with hate cause someone can't read, can't deal with a vent post, or is just a bigot.

2a: I do think there could be levels of this to be more accommodating for journalists and organizers. So the ability to consent to quote boosts should have options. You could consent to everything. You could be asked before being quote boosted, or you can opt out entirely.

I love you, edit button.

Going back here for a minute. If you're an artist, a #QT on twitter could ABSOLUTELY boost your work. I'm not going to say it didn't.

The issue is, with how it's handled, it removed the ability for people to directly engage with your art with was not as helpful as just a normal #RT.

Yeah, it'd let you know you were QT'd but that's really it.

QTs need to be done in a way that actually helps people promote things in a way that's tangible to the promoted.

RTs would probably still be better.

I do want to make it clear, I'm not saying there can't be instances where art and QTs can't co-exist, but a lot of it that I've seen is for memes such as "Draw your character in your friends style," or "Draw your character in these cute socks."

But this isn't an issue with a yes or a no. If I have the option, I will not enable QTs on my art without purpose.
