Journalist & suffragette Ida B. Wells-Barnett was a founding member of the NAACP. She was known for her tireless crusade against lynching.

After the lynching of her friend, Tommie Moss, https://tinyl.io/7Zwg, Wells-Barnett investigated the causes of lynching.

Her writings on white mob violence resulted in her Memphis, TN newspaper being torched; she moved to Chicago afterward. https://tinyl.io/7Zwi

@SharonGibson3 She is my she-ro. When I feel discouraged in my activism, I remember her courage and persistence, take a deep breath, and push on.

@SharonGibson3

There is the very archetype of a penetrating gaze!

@SharonGibson3

The most prominent entrance to Chicago from the old post office building to Grant Park is named in her honor. My several refugee friends who became citizens this year all went to the State Dept Offices on Ida B. Wells Drive for their interviews. Tests, and ceremonies. She is right up there with Lady Liberty!

@SharonGibson3 in complete awe of this kind of courage
@SharonGibson3 Ida B Wells was a force of natural. She did so many things well. Her life story should be taught in school!
@SharonGibson3 Talk about content moderation & censorship of diverse viewpoints.

@jsmiller

"Talk about content moderation & censorship of diverse viewpoints."

There's nothing moderated or censored about this journalist. Are you sure you're responding to the right post?

@SharonGibson3 Wow. So they destroyed her newspaper and threatened to kill her if she ever came back.

@SharonGibson3

@kristinHenry

There should be a movie about her, or a streaming show, if there haven't been yet.

@meteor @SharonGibson3 I could have sworn I saw one about her...but maybe the writing was so vivid that I thought I saw a movie?

@kristinHenry @meteor
