Awful lotta "reform" nonsense on my timeline today.
@thelastanarchist I remember when I used to believe in reform. I was like... 18. Probably around the same time that I respected politics as a career path, and thought that wealthy people earned their place in society. I used to believe a lot of stupid things.
@NekoAlice Relatable. I used to tell people I wanted to become the world's richest person so I could use the money to change the world for the better. Well... we're getting a glimpse of how THAT path turns out right now.
@thelastanarchist You have to basically be willing to sell your soul to be the richest person in the world. The sorts of things you have to do to attain that position precludes people from empathy, it seems.
@NekoAlice Indeed! I think, at the time, I had watched way too many optimistic TV series where people defeated the odds and beat the bad guys at their own game without resorting to their dirty tactics. I thought "I'm clever, I'll do the same!" And then I encountered reality: The reason the path to power is riddled with evil, is because the holding of it is evil itself.
