Are we clear now extreme disparities of income—and particularly subsidizing billionaires—is not great for a healthy, stable society?
@StevenBeschloss everybody but the people who have bought Congress.
@StevenBeschloss that usually ends up in full-on revolutions.
@StevenBeschloss and has been Republican orthodoxy since 1980.
@StevenBeschloss Amen, Steven, as always you are right on point.
@StevenBeschloss the billionaires sure are doing their best to illustrate the point.

@StevenBeschloss I'm 100% certain we're not clear on it, but it's a nice thought. It's the weird thing about creating a culture where everybody is on the verge of financial ruin. Becoming rich becomes the dream. The way we finally don't have to cry ourselves to sleep every night wondering if we can pay our rent.

People don't let their dreams die over a simple thing like facts and logic.

@StevenBeschloss look at the disparities in income between the legislators, who would need to change this, and most Americans and you will see that, no, we are not remotely clear

@StevenBeschloss

Can we please add the heavily subsidized Midwestern farmers with an average net worth of $5 - 10 million who are handed hundreds of thousands every single year?
These heavily Trumpist, 99% white, 1%-er entitled bunch of hypocrites decry assistance to the poor and fight against any kind of immigration, effectively control the Senate and support the end of democracy.

@commonsensepaine @StevenBeschloss they fight against immigration because having no path to citizenship for immigrants provides for a steady supply of half-free farm hands.
@StevenBeschloss
I clicked on your post because I had assumed that you were referring to the UK - rather than the US.
Because there is a similar problem there...
@StevenBeschloss Or we could just all read the collected works of Jared Diamond #bookstodon
@ChrisBoese @StevenBeschloss Or possibly someone who didn't make up some of their stuff.
@StevenBeschloss: Unfortunately, I suspect not.

@StevenBeschloss

Every billionaire represents a tax policy failure.

@StevenBeschloss Crystal clear.
Unfortunately, there will always be a brainwashed elitist out there...
@StevenBeschloss Many of us are convinced gross income and wealth disparity are a bad thing, but a sizeable minority is now even more gleeful that a few monied bulls seem to be allowed to run loose in the China shop with no repercussions. Remember we are just a splinter of the ape family tree and you'll see we really haven't evolved much socially.
@StevenBeschloss Yes. They want an unhealthy, unstable society, so we're constantly scrapping.
@StevenBeschloss owning things doesn’t make you special?
@StevenBeschloss
a UBI, either funded by all at a flat rate, or funded by the moderately well off up to the super rich on a graduated scale, with a top rate of say 50% surtax on income over a few million dollars would build a healthier more productive society and economy
@StevenBeschloss It isn’t even close to stopping them, but it’s either a start or good PR, or both.
@StevenBeschloss Most people are yes, unfortunately there are enough people who profit off the system and happen to be in charge who say no...
