Why is it that these blades are so huge? Bigger = more power generated?

Surely we should be aiming at smaller, more efficient turbines. These use fewer resources in their making, transportation and construction. They also look less unsightly on the landscape, and thus improve the chance of passing planning permission.

@Jon6705 Bigger, more efficient, and more cost-efficient. Designs above 15 MW, already on the table.
