The Zen monk Yaoshan is sitting in meditation, and his teacher, Shitou, comes up to him and asks, "What are you doing?"

Yaoshan says, "I'm not doing anything."

Shitou replies, "Then you're just being idle."

Yaoshan tells him, "If I were being idle, then I'd be doing something."
