Some good news on the new Overture Maps Foundation, as it seems they want to work with the OSM community, and make a project that works in complement with it. Questions remain, but it’s still a bit reassuring. https://blog.openstreetmap.org/2022/12/22/views-from-the-openstreetmap-foundation-on-the-launch-of-overture/
Views from the OpenStreetMap Foundation on the launch of Overture | OpenStreetMap Blog

@thelinuxEXP They're at embrace, extend. If they really don't move on to the third E, this will be a positive collab. I don't trust the extinguishing experts from Microsoft to contain themselves though
@luna @thelinuxEXP I would probably think the same thing, but the project is under the Linux foundation so I actually believe them when they say it’ll stay open
@ashrude @thelinuxEXP It will never really be open compared to OSM though
@luna @ashrude Depends on the license they use
@thelinuxEXP @ashrude The data is entirely gathered by corporations and there is no way to crowd source it, if it were to split from OSM it wouldn't be very open, it's like an open source project which ignores issues and doesn't accept PRs. This is all a hypothetical though
@thelinuxEXP this is not really more than informal speak. I have to see it before I believe it
