I love progressive web apps (PWAs); hell, Mastodon makes one of the best ones (go to Preferences > Appearance and check to Enable advanced web interface to deliver a Tweetdeck-like experience).

The Mastodon PWA has been pretty good, also supports push notification. Honestly, if you don't care about multi-account support & being able to resize the font, the Mastodon PWA works great on mobile as well. The Mastodon mobile app is really optional.

Yes, I use the PWA (Edge) on both desktop and mobile, and I love it!

Multi-account support isn't an issue for me yet, but probably will be at some point (I had five Twitter accounts, for various interests). So I hope that's addressed at some point.

@deltatux @daniel_rubino glad you mentioned that. It was the font size thing that was winding me up re PWA on mobile. Couldn't get the size smaller!! šŸ˜± Otherwise you're right, the PWA is near perfect, and of course no delay in getting version updates (some apps lag, in my brief experience).

@daniel_rubino it's actually still kinda incredible to look at given all the discussions about tweetdeck being bought by twitter, and tweetdeck like apps (tweeten) etc..

Here it's just built in, out the box, no effort other than tick a check box!

@daniel_rubino @brandonleblanc I've decided over the next two weeks I'm going to test out the official Mastodon app, Tusk, Megalodon, and the UWP to see what is best. I might even do a write up (Doubt that though).

The #PWA is great and I've never used an app on mobile for that reason.

Only bummer is it loads external links in a WebView instead of the standard browser. Anyone know a way around this on Android (specifically Samsung Internet browser)?

@slab_bulkhead That I don't know. I know in Megalodon you can choose to use in-browser or external in Settings, but no idea about the PWA.

@daniel_rubino @JezCorden I'm usually not a big fan of PWAs but Mastodon's is definitely the best one I've ever used

and Twitter's is one of the worst lol
