Why are gasification and pyrolysis better than burning? Don,t they all ultimately release the carbon back to the atmosphere?

@HileRun Gasification and pyrolysis processes _will_ have some emissions and those _can_ be more or less environmentally-friendly, but you can capture between 5 and 30% of the carbon as biochar, which is sequestered in the soil for centuries, making it a carbon-negative process.
