Welp, guess it's time to find a new Mastodon instance to move to. Any tips?
@harrisj have heard nothing but good things about Hachyderm
@dansinker I had been resisting going to a programmer-heavy instance (for the same reason I didn't move to San Francisco), but it seems okay. I suppose I could also make my own instance!
@harrisj that's what I did
@dansinker Dan, I still have 1000 unfinished projects though, I can't be responsible for maintaining the infrastructure of my social media empire too
@harrisj @dansinker my social media empire is my one true hobby now, I stare at sidekiq queues all day long and chuckle at my reach. It’s fun!
@seriouslyjeff @harrisj @dansinker I want a company like fastmail to give me a masto at my domain without me having to sysadmin it
@a_l @harrisj @dansinker you can do that! but it's involved, and requires the whole instance to agree: https://docs.joinmastodon.org/admin/config/#web_domain

@palewire @seriouslyjeff @a_l @harrisj @dansinker Why would I run my own? Honest question. “It’s fun” is a totally reasonable answer.
@dansinker @kleinmatic @palewire @a_l @harrisj what Dan said, and it's fun! In my case, I had a four old ass raspberry pis running Kubernetes and an abundance of free time to deploy and accidentally delete a mastodon instance a bunch of times.
@seriouslyjeff @dansinker @palewire @a_l @harrisj I feel that. I still have my tuned-up sendmail.cf around here somewhere.

@kleinmatic @seriouslyjeff @dansinker @palewire @a_l @harrisj

no let sendmail go scott let it goooooo

@quinn @seriouslyjeff @dansinker @palewire @a_l @harrisj Oh I’m not actually running sendmail. I just never throw anything away.
