@dansinker @kleinmatic @palewire @a_l @harrisj what Dan said, and it's fun! In my case, I had a four old ass raspberry pis running Kubernetes and an abundance of free time to deploy and accidentally delete a mastodon instance a bunch of times.

@a_l @kleinmatic @dansinker @palewire @harrisj not anymore :( that was on a beaglebone that died with a puff of foul smelling smoke after I tried training a neural net or something on it for a few days. You'd think I'd pay more attention to backups due to that but naw. It's all yeeehaw computing over here.

1) You won't lose your data if your amateur host craps out
2) You can have unlimited bots without asking for approval
3) You can have a vanity URL
4) You don't have to be associated with another host or brand
5) Admins can't access your private data

@harrisj to be fair, I farmed my maintenance out to some europeans that I pay $16 to.

Rebecca Richkus@harrisj I really appreciate our admins and mods in mastodon.world! It’s a bigger instance, though, so depends on if you want a smaller one.
Mark Kornblum@harrisj hachyderm seems good in the 2 days I’ve been on it 😆 I also looked at social.coop (no relation to the one in the story) and I liked its collective ownership and vibe, but didn’t want to jump into that until I was surer I liked mastodon
