Do you feel there are not enough Mastodon apps out there?
Fret not, I have a brand new one for you!

You can now try a very early version of Woolly, my new Mastodon client for iOS.

Lots of things are missing and probably broken, but I'd like to start collecting feedback.

You can join Woolly TestFlight here:

Available on iOS

Almost 400 testers already, awesome!
Keep the feedback coming.
@mttvll do you prefer feedback through TestFlight or on here? (or other?)
@mttvll loving the app so far Matteo
@mttvll love love love Fenix. Can’t wait to test this and others
@mttvll Great app, nothing else syncs so fast on startup. What I‘d really like to see is counts (replies, boosts, favorites) besides the action buttons on the main timeline.
@lachralle thanks! Action buttons counters are coming soon.
@mttvll Success.
@Tinrocket I'm glad it launches without crashing 😅
@mttvll The design looks good so far; very intuitive.
@mttvll testing it right now 🤓 might bombard you with some observations later 😅

@mttvll Really great start so far! I really like the clean interface.

A couple bits of early feedback.

• It wasn’t clear to me when first signing up that the text field above “Sign in” was there, or what I needed to enter into it. I imagine it’s just a temporary affordance until you have an instance picker, but some placeholder text might help.

@mttvll • If the user hasn’t typed anything when composing a reply, consider just closing the sheet without prompting them to discard the post. It’s probably fair to assume they’re not losing anything.

@mttvll • I was surprised to see that the app was in light mode when I started using it, despite my iOS device being in dark mode. I eventually found the switch, but it should probably default to your system setting.

Also, the dark mode could be a little darker, but I realize that may just be my own personal preference.

@mttvll • Another thing that may be particular to me (being color blind), but the color that the reblog indicator turns to indicate something has been reblogged looks very similar whether it is on or off. It’s hard to distinguish.

Ideally, something other than just color should indicate this status.

@mttvll That’s it for now, I think.

Overall, it looks like a great start, and the interface is probably the nicest-looking I’ve seen so far. 👍

@jeff Thanks, that's very good to know. I definitely need to fix the reblog icon.
@jeff there's an issue with dark mode at the moment - that's also the reason you weren't seeing the placeholder text at first launch. Will fix asap. Thanks for the feedback!
@mttvll done! Looks nice so far!! Looking forward to all the new apps people are creating, this is a lot of fun
@mttvll reply threading looks fantastic!
@mttvll ooh nice, does this happen to have a URL scheme I could use for @Opener?
@timonus @Opener not yet, I'll keep you updated when it's added
@mttvll will there be one for Android??
@mttvll Looks interesting and managed to get in but hit with two immediate issues (I’d have reported on TestFlight but it won’t let me attach a video)
1. It wasn’t clear what was needed to be able to log in. Took a moment to realise there’s an input, but after that, what was needed?
2. Typing out a reply wasn’t showing what I was typing. See the video. I also get the same when composing a new toot.
Looking forward to see where this goes, keep up the good work.
@ampersarnie thank! there's an issue with dark mode at the moment, will fix asap
@mttvll seems really featureful for a v0.1!
@mttvll looking great!! I’m curious though, is it Swift and UIKit or SwiftUI?
@anthony UIKit with just a couple of very simple SwiftUI views
@mttvll Gotcha okay. I started building one in SwiftUI so having to really figure out thing differently. Trying to see if im on my own island here with it or if there are others on it with me😂
@mttvll looks good actually. I liked the the way everything looks.
@mttvll excited for this to come to android!
@mttvll Woolly is really slick already. A very promising start! Will be watching closely and testing. Well done 👏
@mttvll crashed as soon as I signed in to my server 😢
@mttvll love it so far… would like some swipe options… even better if they were configurable
@mttvll there’s no such thing as “enough Mastodon apps” keep ‘em coming! :)

@mttvll

No Android version for now? Not that I'm pushing, just wanted to know

@mttvll I would but am keeping my iphone 12 on 15.7.x until 16 stabilizes so I can’t load the beta.
@mttvll So far using just a few min between calls at work looks pretty!

@mttvll awesome! With Metatext no longer being developed, the time is ripe for a shiny new app. What sets Woolly apart, have you got any specific aims?

I’ve been giving Mammoth a try (also on TestFlight for now) and that’s great, so you’ve got competition ;)

@mttvll It gives me a great first impression. How are you going to monetize it in the future?
@mttvll the threading view is awesome!
@mttvll ok it’s installed, and this is lovely! Good work.
@mttvll Used Fenix for Android for a long time before moving to iOS. Happy to see you here.
@mttvll Do you plan on creating an Android version?
@mttvll How should we report issues?
@cantstopthesignal you can use the link in the app settings
@mttvll Thanks for the Woolly App. Looks very good for the initial version. Any plans for Android version?
Thanks…

@mttvll This is going to be cool! FYI, there are some unlabeled buttons, where my screen reader won't tell me what they do -- I have to assume based on where it is, or sometimes the name helps.

This is still a great start so far.

@BrailleScreen sorry, I haven't paid much attention to accessibility - I will definitely improve things as I go.
@mttvll Tried Woolly, it looks like after sometime(don’t know the trigger), I can’t seem to tap anything in Woolly, tabs didn’t switch when I tapped them, toots wouldn’t open, just no interactions. Only way to fix is to quit app and restart. I’m currently on iOS 16.2 with iPhone 8.
@eGurl sorry about that, will be fixed in the next update
