Aida Rostami was a doctor who treated protesters until she was tortured and murdered by Iranian officials.

Dec 12, after taking care of several wounded protesters in Ekbatan, Aida left a protester’s house to get medical supplies and was never seen alive again. Officials told her family to pick up her tortured body a day later. Just like that.

She was 36.

This is the face of theocracy. We must all fight to keep religion out of our respective governments. Or else.

@flexghost Thank you for bringing attention to this horrible nightmare. Just unimaginably sad and devastating.

@flexghost

Remember back in 2009 the Iranian student protester who was murdered by militia? Could never unsee that video and it still haunts me all these years later.

Neda Agha-Soltan Becomes a Symbol of Iran Protests Through Video

The killing of Neda Agha-Soltan on Satuday has stirred wide outrage in a society that is infused with the culture of martyrdom.

@flexghost damn that’s so fucked up

@flexghost
I'm surprised American women aren't showing tremendous solidarity for Iranian women. I understand we've had a lot on our plate, and we reach a saturation point; but this is a big deal.

Iranian women deserve our support...if only on social media, and by telling our elected officials we support them.

@RadicalWoman111 @flexghost

Agreed! They are incredibly brave. It is forgotten that despite the Shah’s repressive regime, SAVAK etc. Iran was a modern country and women had rights!

Afghanistan too.

The attack on women anywhere is an attack on women everywhere!

Solidarity!

@RadicalWoman111 @flexghost As a woman I support women’s movements across all countries and religions . As an American I can say that the #iranianwomensmovement doesn’t get much air time on news channels throughout the country like it should.

@islandqueen @flexghost
Exactly!

I reckon major newspaper editors and cable news station producers think following the EPIC Iranian protests and the bloody backlash from Khamenei's regime isn't a good look.

Wouldn't want to offend their racist conservative advertisers.

@flexghost when religion holds political power, bad things always happen.
@flexghost Thank you for bringing this home to the US. This is where we could end up with religious zealots in elected or unelected power.
@flexghost geez- these heroes of Iran- so brave and willing to stand up for something good and better for their families and country. Take note - these real freedom fighters will win.
@flexghost I have boosted the post but I cannot bring myself to like it, as someone who was raised in a cult I loathe religion interference in people's lives, if you want to believe so be it but, don't push it onto others.
@flexghost It's exactly the moment when religion is being treated as something other than a strictly personal thing. No matter if it's being influencing government policy or being institutionalized in form of a cult or church.
@flexghost
This is so horrific to read....
@Patkiernan and one of many stories.
@flexghost
The hopelessness of their situation....beyond saddening
@flexghost 😪😪😪Oh God. The men and their fears.
@Mallulady and they fear everything…most of all: rejection.

@flexghost
Thousands of years ago, the Euthyphro dilemma proved that you CAN'T get morality from religion, and yet most theists believe that their religion can produce what no religion can.

Thus, merging religion and state always fuses earthly power with poor moral decisions, which leads to entirely predictable results.

@flexghost Separation of church & state protects us all from religious fundamentalism!
@loveallexcludenone you do realize that the Republicans have literally called for the end of separation of church and state calling America a Christian nation yes?
@flexghost Yes , I am Very aware of the attempt to violate our Constitution
@flexghost Hindu radicals in my country are trying to turn it into a theocracy. We won't let that happen.
@abhijith I appreciate your fight

In 2000, Madeleine Albright, U.S. Secretary of State, said that intervention by the U.S. in the internal affairs of Iran was a setback for democratic government.[132][133] The coup is widely believed to have significantly contributed to the 1979 Iranian Revolution, which deposed the "pro-Western" Shah and replaced the monarchy with an "anti-Western" Islamic republic
