Playing with Phanpy, a fancy new Mastodon web client by @cheeaun.

Sooo much better than the default web app, let's please all copy this layout as the new model for native apps πŸ™

Phanpy

Minimalistic opinionated Mastodon web client

@tbernard glad you like it! 🀩 It's still kinda rough around the edges, I'm slowly polishing things up πŸ’ͺ
@cheeaun @tbernard Too much space lost for me but the thread view is a must-have !

@cheeaun Can't wait, thank you for your work on this!

By the way, is it too early to start filing issues?

@tbernard kinda early but it's fine to file them, which is good for me to know the priorities.

The reason it's alpha is because there's a lot of small features that seems easy to implement but turns out quite a lot of work (e.g. char count & language selection) so those need more time & careful planning.

@tbernard @cheeaun it looks super pretty (using it rn) but I'm missing the quick buttons beneath toots, and there is quite a bunch of wasted space on my 1440p monitor on the right
@tbernard @cheeaun wow what a beautiful UI. Much better than the outdated official mastodon UI. We hope getting similar design for an android app.

@tbernard @cheeaun

Is this a mobile-friendly PWA? Looks astonishingly clean and yet very featured.

@vintprox No idea about PWA, but it does scale down to mobile sizes.

@tbernard

That's nice - paddings could use some work for mobile, but overall feels great.

I kinda wanted #PWA (#ServiceWorkers) that would work as fine offline, with cache of such data: profile, timelines of everyone and everything I follow (people and hashtags), account settings, avatars and other small media files. Haha, come to think of it, sounds like a huge a** wishlist from me there. Just throwing some ideas while I have them, y'know

@vintprox @tbernard it's "partially" a PWA - works in standalone mode (without browser UI) but not a lot of caching as I'm still changing/updating a lot of things.

Currently it's only caching images but I found that it's using up *a lot* of space (GBs!) πŸ˜… so I'll be toning it down in the next update.

@tbernard @vintprox oh wow, can I know which phone are you using? I'm constantly testing it in 320px viewport width (smallest older iphone)
@cheeaun That wasn't a real phone, I just used the mobile emulator thing in the Firefox devtools :)
@tbernard @cheeaun I really have to say this is awesome and impressive. Really no Tailwind and just vanilla CSS? Did you write the resets yourself?
@dottorblaster thanks, yeah, no resets though… I'm kinda old-school πŸ˜†
@tbernard 😍 this is so cool. Already installed as pwa on Android. Will test Desktop Mode tomorrow. Only what really matters, text and pics. The arrows for Commentoots look very nice on smartphone. Shortening the username by the serverurl is just perfect
Thank you @cheeaun
@tbernard @cheeaun honestly so excited about all these new clients popping up. This is the kind of stuff that was possible on twitter before they locked it all down and it wasn't. I remember using some java desktop client for the longest time, because that was what was most convenient for me.
