One of the things Mastodon lacks, at least as far as I can tell, is local content.

So ... I will be posting Houston-area info fairly regularly. Don't worry, non-residents, I'll try to make it interesting (and provide context for those not living here) when I do.

Still lots of tech posts, too, along with food, cats, pizza and slightly twisted dad jokes. The usual.

If you're from Houston, pls give me a follow. If you know someone who lives here, pls give them a head's up. thanks!

@dsilverman I hope you don't work for the Chronicle, because I really don't care which breweries opened and closed this week. Also, Go Stros.

@dsilverman Mastodon has a feature called groups, for example: https://a.gup.pe/

You follow a group, mention it on your post and it sends messages to that group.

Same way you could do Houston Area group.

@dsilverman I was wondering the same thing this morning. I have lists on twitter for sugar land & houston specific news and was wondering if there was a way to pipe all of that into RSS and have it flow here. Also doing that without getting banned from Twitter
@kashif Roboposting from Twitter to Mastodon is not verboten, but can be frowned upon depending on the instance and the admin.
@dsilverman Ex-Houstonian. Lived and worked for 38 years in the suburbs, retired and escaped to Texas Hill (and wine) Country in 2018. I've read your writings since the days when it was only available in the newspaper. I miss the arts and restaurants but not much else.
