Dmitry Kokh from Russia has been named the Nature Photographer of the Year 2022. His winning photograph "House of Bears" was taken at an abandoned Weather Station on Kolyuchin, an island off the coast of Russia.
@MicheleV_AK I'd love to get some back story about how close this location is to the coast, and presumably the lack of ice thereby.
@roadskater It's an abandoned Arctic weather station on a Russian island, Kolyuchin. The photographer was on a ship headed back to Russia when bad weather forced them to head for the island and that's when he discovered the polar bears, about 20 in all. That's as much as I know, but you can check out his website and also see the other polar bear series he took from a Russian ice cutter using a drone near the North Pole on Franz Josef Island. https://www.dmitrykokh.com/polar-bears-and-the-icebreaker
