Enough dogpiling on China. The almost gleeful news coverage in the US. The panting "I told you so" toots. It's too much.

1. Yes, it will be bad. This is a reason to be caring.
2. Nobody wins here. More deaths on one side of the Pacific doesn't mean fewer deaths on the other.
3. The list of countries that rolled out the perfect policy for every twist of this unprecedented epidemic is zero.
4. The US has had and continues to have plenty of deaths due to poor policy.
5. Our family is dying. For some of us, our literal family.

Show some fucking respect. Show some humanity.

@Gtmlosangeles I agree with all this. Being assholes about COVID failure doesn't help the dying now.

As long as it isn't used to silence "now what?" conversations. Sometimes it does take tragedy to galvanize policy response change.

So can we use this, we meaning any government or group, to finally FINALLY push for the steps that the world needs to take* to emerge into a better pandemic normal?

* e.g. ventilation, masking, vaccination, health comms, sci literacy, WFH, UBI and sick time, etc...
