Remember - there’s no algorithm here. Favs are nice but boosts are useful. Boost more than you did on Twitter.
@shanselman Favs are for saying, "nice job, I like this." Boosts are for saying, "more people should see this."
@tf I give you both. Just for fun.
@tf @shanselman hmm that's interesting. I thought favs were bookmarks; things I'd like to keep for long term storage, not for "likes"?
@borland @tf there are actual bookmarks here
@shanselman @borland @tf Though I'm not sure what the difference is. Two functions seem to be pretty much the same, except bookmarks aren't public?
@schuetzler @shanselman @borland @tf Favouring toots notifies the author. Bookmarks doesn’t.
@schuetzler @shanselman @borland @tf bookmarks are not public and the author of the original toot doesn't get a notification. A like "says something" while a bookmark is a bookmark.
@schuetzler @shanselman @borland @tf bookmarks are for yourself to remember a toot for later. Favs can also do that, but they also show the author appreciation.
@tf @shanselman But what is a Boost?
@valder @shanselman I think what Boost does is it bumps it back up to the top of all the feeds. (Home feed for your followers, local feed for everyone else on your instance.)
@tf @shanselman Absolutely. That was how I used Twitter as well.
