Aaron Dodd@JohnJamesOZ There is much I dislike about Rudd, but kudos where it is due - his managerial style - autocratic, fast, with quick decision making, was exactly what Australia needed when the GFC hit. He got us through that largely unscathed. His problem was that style was entirely inappropriate once the GFC was over and business as usual resumed. Regardless, he has lived on and off in the USA for decades, is well connected and is probably the best suited candidate for the role for decades.

Matt Quinn@JohnJamesOZ He's a bit of a shit but clearly a highly intelligent, capable and driven bit of shit. He'd understand the role better than most, and be well suited to that sort of job (way more than he was as PM)
Plus I think he's mellowed a lot over the last few years once it was clear his time directly in politics was over.
Finally Australia sending someone so virulently anti-Murdoch to the USA is a bit of a spit in the eye to old Uncle Rupert. So that's good.
