This is a bizarre op-ed and I’m surprised that PW would publish it. Of course university presses are under economic pressure, like the entire publishing industry. But they provide a huge public service in getting books to market that otherwise would not get a for-profit publisher’s attention. I can’t imagine pitching a book about Sec 230 to a commercial publisher in 2015. https://www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/columns-and-blogs/soapbox/article/91144-demythifying-the-university-press.html
Demythifying the University Press

Author and retired professor Harvey J. Grqaff challenges some long-held university press assumptions.

@jkosseff I work at a UP. We still publish many books for the traditional academic market. But there’s definitely increased pressure to do more trade-like books. And it’s not always a comfortable fit. My work is more on the production side, and I’d like to think we’re still holding up our end on that side of the bargain.
@jkosseff Was it just me, or was that a rather unclear block of writing to parse? "Things are bad... but they've always been bad... but now they're worse... People say that things are not worse... But they don't provide any data... Just like I won't."
