Note that the J6C Report begins where only a handful of reporters have gone: with the words of the actual rioters. You need that to prove incitement but TV lawyers said it was all a waste of time.

J6C have learned the lesson about how to recommend charges against Trump: Say he "oversaw" something rather than that he "directed" it to happen.

@JasonLeopold

J6C: The IC knew the Proud Boys were a threat, but not the guy who told the Proud Boys to "stand back and stand by."
An important detail for voter confidence: Trump won a number of states with no-excuse absentee voting.
BREAKING: Billy Barr can too wait until assessing evidence (which he didn't do on the Mueller investigation).
Note J6C calls Roger Stone an "outside adviser." Pulling their punches.

J6C suggests that Bill Stepien saw Rudy replacing his own role as campaign manager.

A good way to avoid an indictment!

"Stepien described his interaction with Giuliani as an intentional “self-demotion,” with Stepien stepping aside once it became clear that President Trump intended to spread falsehoods."

Remember that the challenge to Rudy's DC Bar license is still pending.
I propose that Trump's tombstone should say, "I don't want people to know that we lost."
The table comparing Trump's claims to debunkings top DOJ official made days earlier stretches across 5 pages.
Billy Barr's self-justifying quote for entertaining Trump's voter fraud claims made the cut.
Is it a bad thing for one of your former law professors to go to jail? Asking for Chapman U.

Cip was obviously trying really hard to avoid damning testimony about Trump. "Cipollone did not deny having an angry confrontation with Dr. Eastman outside of the Oval
Office – though he said he didn’t have a specific recollection."

Too bad so sad your privilege claims were overruled.

Who is Ross Worthington and why did the Stephen Miller drafts of Trump's speech come from him?
Cassidy Hutchinson told the committee someone in WHCO warned against the fake electors scheme in March. In July, Cip attributed that to Philbin.
J6C calls Eastman and Kenneth Chesebro "co-conspirators" on the fake electors scheme, in case anyone is looking for clues on the other referrals.
Cheesebro's attention to detail will make for a nice trial.
See? Elmo's right: Twitter didn't police doxxing well enough.
Tune in for the rest once I return to Eire.
Picking back up. The J6C Report is weaker on the group affiliations here--pulling punches, here, from anti-maskers.
Jason Miller claiming credit for a gallows comment...

"Certain Republican members of
Congress" may have known of Trump's plans...

That you, Jim?

@emptywheel Jason Miller has literally never been helpful
@emptywheel Great reading.
BTW I read the ALT texts rather than the screen shots, much clearer on my mobile. Did you use the OCR? Thanks! Not just for people of poor eyesight.
@martinvermeer The report itself is copyable.
@emptywheel Of course! Should have noticed the absence of OCR errors ❤️
@emptywheel
It’s difficult to agree with Elmo about anything, but I agree.
Today’s J6 meeting reminded me of all the dangerous trump tweets that TFG at twitter allowed. He really hurt our country.
@emptywheel Which is funny, because even though they did the right thing in that case, absolutely nobody on either side of the aisle actually LIKES Shirkey or Chatfield, because they're not good people. So... not that it justifies doxxing or any threats against them, but if, hypothetically, all it had meant was the inconvenience of their phones (or at least Shirkey's) blowing up for a while, that would be hilarious.
@emptywheel @mmasnick Jerk move by Trump but those two are still irredeemable.
@emptywheel now elmo only allows policy poll for blue checks for $8. So he isnt always right.
@emptywheel Ah, is this the same Elon Musk who in the last 24 hours has allowed the names, landline and cellphone details of serving FBI officers in emails marked "not for outside distribution" as part of the Twitter Files.
@emptywheel 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@emptywheel Didn't Trump doxx Rubio as well? Shirkey and the "private citizen" should have some lawyers working on a civil suits. Based on Trump's previous actions they should be easy to win.

@emptywheel

I still, uh, can't read the name "Cheesebro" without laughing.

@emptywheel Chesebro. Now there is officially a MAGA with a worse name than "MyPillow Guy."
@emptywheel Would love to see all the GA fraudulent “foot soldier” electors charged. One of them was just elected to the position of GA Lt. Guvna #Gapol #J6C #J6

@emptywheel Roger stone was certainly portrayed as a villain. Will everyone in that parking garage be … #arrested?

Will Steve Bannon and Alex Jones continue to enjoy podcasting and raising money to overthrow the US government?

@emptywheel

Individual 1 is still free to wreak havoc

@emptywheel what about the Secret Service BS with Mike Pence and in the #WhiteHouse?

@emptywheel Per The Guardian, Ross Worthington is a Trump aide who helped Stephen Miller draft the speech.

There's a few errors in the report. So far: the Oath Keepers in no way "led" the attack - most arrived 1.5 hours after the start. The fall of the W. Plaza is listed as 2:35 PM instead of 2:27, which matters a lot given signals.

Biggest issues are omissions. The first attacker were not incited by Trump's speech - they didn't even attend it. Fliers had for weeks announced a 1 PM start.

@emptywheel

Ross Worthington a WH statter is tremendous writer and policy developer who has been big part of Gingrich Productions

@emptywheel Meredith McIvers' brother?
@emptywheel Eastman is most likely going to jail (if DOJ doesn't wimp out on us). Then the only mystery will be if he grasses on Ginni Thomas for various crimes...
@emptywheel Wasn't he the Dean at some point?
@emptywheel Not as bad as a current professor.
@emptywheel Do we know yet if Barr swindled the first pocket pardon out of Trump before going semi-rogue on him? (using the heck out of the edit feature here) :gnomed:
@emptywheel God knows I’m no fan of Barr, but ultimately this may look like the right move: Makes it much harder for Trump to pretend he was advancing these claims sincerely or in good faith.
@emptywheel “I had to support the insurrection to prevent the insurrection.”
@emptywheel This is Barr patting himself on the back.
If he were truthful he would say he was looking into it in the hopes to find something Trump could use to nullify the election.
Barr left early because he saw what was going on in the WH and his employees at the DOJ and didn't want to be around when it hit the fan.
He would have been fine with it all if it had succeeded.
@emptywheel Does he expect a “thank you” for fueling the fires?
@emptywheel As long as it's resistant the erosive effects of urine.
@emptywheel I propose "Betrayed his Oath of Office. Every. Single. Day."
@emptywheel I think it should showcase his NFT’s and read “my legacy “.
@emptywheel tRump's headstone should either that, or "PEE HERE"! Although I think everyone will know where to pee from the yellow stains on it!
