If the GOP is really the party of “family values,” why won't Republicans in Congress restore the expanded child tax credit?

RT @[email protected]

Confirmed, per source familiar: The final omnibus package will drop the child tax credit due to staunch GOP resistance to consider a limited expansion in the lame-duck.

R&D tax provisions also dropped

Last-minute Democratic push to expand the Child Tax Credit is all but dead, sources say | Semafor

Republicans are balking at a potential trade for business tax cuts.

@rbreich So ignorant and cruel! It’s been said before, and unfortunately will be repeated again and again, “the cruelty is the point”.
@rbreich because they don’t actually care about families.
@rbreich Because they don’t care about anybody or anything except MONEY and POWER!!!…..Next question…
@rbreich
Republicans? Family values? Make that Insurrection values!
So I challenge everyone out there to find someone making between $25-30,000 income. They are the ones who are being punished most by trumptax increases. They’re taxes going up an additional 30% over next couple years. Know who they are. Find one. Ask about their life. Don’t be afraid to be knowledgeable. Then report back please.
@rbreich I have always considered the GOP’s ‘family values’ refer only to anti abortion and pro-life stance, nothing whatever to do with raising children.
@mediocratese @rbreich
It's forced birth. There's nothing in what substitutes for GOP policy that is remotely pro life.
@joeinwynnewood @mediocratese @rbreich
It’s the ‘domestic supply of infants’, that Alito referenced pre-Dobbs.
Does ‘domestic’ mean ‘white’?
@mediocratese @rbreich
Family values are housing, food, employment, education.
They’re not about who’s gay or who doesn’t want to have a baby. Outside of your own family, it’s none of your business.
@rbreich Good. Now where’s the tax credit for non-breeders?

@rbreich

Because it doesn't apply to the pre-born.

@rbreich Party of Liars and Traitors is what they should be called.
@rbreich because they don’t want it to go to black and brown kids. It really is that simple.
@rbreich So the GOP platform is to deny women birth control, essentially legalize rape, force women to give birth then offer them nothing to help care for the child. Nothing will change until people stop voting for these monumental misogynists.
@rbreich it’s being leaked to try and get the Republicans to deal. Dems want the R&D tax break just as much.
@rbreich I thought the dems still had the majority and didn’t need any gop votes until next year? I don’t understand this
@rbreich The answer is that Republicans are not the party for families. They are the party for ultra rich who do not want to pay taxes and the protector of the gun lobby and manufacturers.
@rbreich I've seriously come to the conclusion, after tracking Cruz, Paul, Jordan, Abbot (and the rest of Texas) that cruelty is the actual agenda. Cruelty is the point. It is the very orgasmic lure for these ones. I'm serious.
