Four criminal referrals by the Jan. 6 committee—including inciting insurrection, conspiracy to defraud the United States, obstruction of an act of Congress and one more federal crime—for the criminal occupant of our WH who ended the nation’s sacred tradition of the peaceful transfer of power. Now it’s up to Merrick Garland, Jack Smith and the DOJ to do their job and indict and prosecute this man who continues to undermine our democracy. Are we not a nation of laws?
@StevenBeschloss Please note that the vast majority of the evidence gathered by the 1/6 committee is not (yet) admissilble in court. Charges will be brought based on this evidence if DOJ can make it admissible.

@MIGIRLINVA @StevenBeschloss

A first year law student could make the case.

The only reason Garland wouldn't bring charges is a lack of will.

He put the Oklahoma bomber away when he was caught fleeing the scene with explosives residue on his hands.

This US Capitol bomber was videotaped at the scene summoning the mob and lighting the match, and is covered in evidence.

A first year law student could make this case.

@gih LOL - thank you for admitting yo have no idea how this works.
@StevenBeschloss Even tho I don't actually believe Trump or his lead puppet whisperers will actually experience true justice, I found the #Jan6 committee's official referrals and recommendations unexpectedly moving. I DO appreciate their continued push against corruption by tR*** and his cronies, esp in the face of such political & social pressures & real threats to their safety.
@StevenBeschloss
Oh they will investigate and investigate and
@StevenBeschloss
12/19/2022. A date history will remember. No. Matter. What.
@StevenBeschloss I worry about Merrick Garland when aggressive action is required.
@StevenBeschloss Games, nothing but political games and the defrauding of Americas taxpayers. J/6 Committee, DOJ will never indict our nations domestic terrorists!
@StevenBeschloss not going to hold my breath…..
I hope Merick Garland will actually prosecute Trump. Garland has already said it would be "bad optics" to indict a former President for a crime. However, it will set an irreparably damaging precedent for our Democratic Republic's fair and impartial application of the rule of law if he doesn't.
@StevenBeschloss
Question for the lawyers out there : given the deaths and multiple injuries that occurred on January 6, why can’t Trump be charged with depraved indifference murder or reckless manslaughter as he set things in motion and as importantly he didn’t do his job to intervene when he was the only person with the power/ ability to stop the carnage?
@StevenBeschloss no, we are not a nation of laws. We are a nation of money.
@StevenBeschloss
The rich in the US are only indicted when they hurt (useually financially) other rich people.
With this in mind, I don’t believe the DoJ will file any charges against DJT since it did not nothing to hurt their moneyed bosses.
They’ll come up with some “We don’t interfere with politics” type defense, like they did for Hilary.
