Okay what are the social norm differences between Twitter and mastodon before I use Mastodon 100% as if it were Twitter?
Like I’m seeing a lot of posts with way more reblogs than favorites, what’s up with that?
@Jessie yeah I've noticed that too. Not too sure.
@sam @Jessie I'm curious about it too! I have a couple of guesses: (1) Favs don't do much here? On Twitter they can become other people's "liked by" out-of-network tweets and they also provide signals for ranking. (2) Cross-instance favs seem to be undercounted?
@Jessie favourites are just symbolic and "boosts" ( it could be an equivalent as retweet) are mainly to spread the message, share it with your contacts or help someone to reach more people. In my opinion, this place is far different from Twitter, not algorithm behind or incentive to collect favs or boosts. It's all about communication and communities sharing their interests/likes.
@Jessie there's no ranking so if you toot too much people will probably unfollow you (just like twitter in the old days)
@sam oh boy, we’re going with “toot”? Okay
