Running a small mastodon instance reminding me how unpleasant I find rails apps.
@lstoll mastodon is very inefficient 😌
@lstoll Time to rewrite it in Rust 🦀
@lstoll too many memories? Sounds like your club doesn’t have enough tinnies
@lstoll Nothin’ a bit of `mkswap /swapfile && swapon /swapfile` can’t fix 😉

@lstoll checked a few weeks back, mastodon uses jemalloc by default (which makes Ruby memory usage waaayy better than normal) 😬

What instance size is it on?

@lstoll *laughs in maintained atlantis for 3 years*
@fables_tales I'd totally blocked that app out of my brain
@lstoll she was a good puppy who occasionally pissed the carpet
@fables_tales was also a good experiment in "how many bootstrap buttons can go on one page"
@lstoll we added a lot more after you left
@lstoll we also added access control! so that you could only see certain buttons if you were in certain roles

@lstoll Did you have some canonical “how to run an individual instance” type guide for that you used?

Interested in details. Dockerized etc etc?

@lstoll would've made so many lives better if it was a single static binary...
@bouk there's an alternative that's like a go bin and a sqlite DB, which is about all I want. hoping it matures a bit more soon.
@lstoll someone else shared honk. Also looks gut.
