New York Republican George Santos’s Résumé Called Into Question

Mr. Santos, a Republican from New York, says he’s the “embodiment of the American dream.” But he seems to have misrepresented a number of his career highlights.

The New York Times
Why did almost no one vet Santos before the election? Hard to know whether to blame the withering of local reporting (the Times can't do *everything*), Santos's Democratic opponent, the AWOL New York Democratic Party, or people's assumption that we're not being lied to about the most basic stuff.
In fairness, Santos drew some pre-election local & national investigative reporting, based on his dubious finances. But no one suspected he was lying about EVERYTHING. https://www.thedailybeast.com/george-devolder-santos-maga-house-candidate-in-new-york-haunted-by-gig-at-alleged-ponzi-scheme

@matthewbudman On brand with the GOP these days.
@matthewbudman Just checking one single fact about his background would have unraveled all of this, but nobody seems to have done it. Though it is also possible that any of these groups did know and sat on the info for whatever reason, and that would be a story, too.
@matthewbudman If you squint a little, he looks like Jimmy Smits who played Santos on WW. So, at least we know where he got his political aspirations from...a TV show.
@matthewbudman This operation sounds like what the GOP in south Florida did just a few years ago.

@matthewbudman

He should be quickly investigated, indicted and prosecuted... he's a fraud and has defrauded the US congress and the United States.... his holding office should be disallowed and he should never be sworn in. This should immediately be forwarded to the NYAG and the DOJ... this is straight up fraud.

@matthewbudman In the business world, lawyers and contracts have been used for hundreds of years because people are not trusted just to do the right thing. It's about time politics caught up.
@matthewbudman It's typically safe to assume conservatives are lying about literally everything
