Don't get me wrong, I LOVE it when people like what I do & it's a great affirmation. But favoriting on Mastodon is sort of akin to a pat on the head & "Good job, kiddo!". And that's it. I think many recent Twitter migrants don't understand there's no algorithm. Just boosts, follows, and hashtags. But beyond that, on Mastodon/Twitter I never understood why people are so stingy w/ retweets/boosts. You may not think it "worthy" but others might🤷‍♂️. Why not favorite & boost?

@Rihilism @LaReinaCroqueta @joshmc It kinda cuts both ways though. Because there's no algorithm, my feed is entirely curated by my follows. I like when people boost good posts for me to read! But people who boost literally *everything* just end up clogging my feed, and I have to make the decision whether to unfollow just to keep things usable.

I'd rather follow lots of choosy curators than a handful of very prolific ones!

@patrickherring
I don't boost everything but I do know that my feed can have multiple boosts by the same person in a row because it's simply the way the timeline works w/o an algorithm. I see their boosts when they are online & boosting & when they aren't I don't. Tons of the stuff I see is awesome & when it's not I just scroll by. If it ever were to be an issue I'd just mute their account. I follow people because I like them. If they choose to boost stuff I don't care for I'm ok with that.
