I was just sent a copy of this glorious oral history of the San Diego Comic Convention, as it grew from a tiny comic con to the International Event it is now. Fascinating stuff from people who were there. Big thumbs up.

@neilhimself
Just a second, just a second.

You are READING an ORAL history?

@ipd yes.
"Oral history is a technique for generating and preserving original, historically interesting information— primary source material—from personal recollections through planned recorded interviews. This method of interviewing is used to preserve the voices, memories and perspectives of people in history." The interviews are in this case transcribed to build a full picture of the growth and change of the con. People who can read and comprehend written words can then read it.

@neilhimself
I love your written words..
And teh lates productions, awesome. BTW.

Your reply TMI. I grew up in an oral history kind of family. "I got ta tell you" was a hallmark phrase.

Sweet irony of reading oral. the non-sequitor is delish.

@[email protected] Literarly grew up with some of the characters from Damon Runyun.
@neilhimself I never ever experienced going to comic con. Someday I wish to!
@neilhimself Nice! I'll need to check out that book - I love learning about geek history, and the San Diego Comic-Con was my local one growing up.
@neilhimself thank you for sharing! This is the perfect gift for my niece, who went from attending to helping run Cons in Michigan! #GrandRapidsComicCon
@neilhimself The oral-histories-of-recent-cultural-wossnames genre is one I find very rewarding.
@neilhimself I saw you at the San Diego comic con right after Sandman was published. I went as Death in my cut off denim shorts, black tank, and lace up witchy boots. It’s fun to think back on that time.
@neilhimself My 1st and only Comic Con adventure was way back in 1995. Much much smaller than it is now. One of my fondest memories is meeting author David Gemmell and him calling me back so that he could autograph and give me 2 of his books, “Legend” and “Morningstar” simply because he wanted me to try something different. Still warms my heart to think about that. Cheers.
@neilhimself I remember going to the larger then normal Marvel Booth. They said they where considering getting into movies.
