Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I think it would be incredibly productive for Mastodon to have an "easy mode" that essentially emulates the UI/UX of Twitter. I think a lot of hesitant folks would jump over with such a feature.

@mikeev what specifically do you think is lacking? My biggest problem was a) finding the instance (social was closed when I tried) and b) that I cannot follow someone from their profile page on a different instance (or rather - sometimes can, no idea when and why!)

Otherwise, it's very similar.

@BartWronski it's not lacking... I think that's the problem. The main web-based UI seems to be geared to avoid useless whitespace... which is exactly as I would have designed it... but having seen it in practice, I think Twitter's UI is objectively better.

I easily get lost in the Mastodon UI, even after using it for a few days.

@mikeev @BartWronski l I find it much harder to parse if something is a retweet (retoot?) Or a reply or a thread etc. Not showing fav counts also feels strange.

The Federation also feels very... Desktop Linux. I don't want any of this just something that gets out of the way!

@mikeev This is called Ivory ๐Ÿ˜œ
@firstadopter what about the web UI though?
