Musk continues to play Calvinball. Now he says "casually" sharing links to competitors is fine but "relentless advertising of competitors" will result in being banned. (None of this is actually specified in the policy announced today.)

The fact that these rules are so poorly defined is a feature, not a bug.

The point is that Musk can just decide where the line is and ban the accounts he doesn't like while permitting the accounts he does like to do what they want.

@juddlegum I wonder if he has delegated the authority or if he spends his time doing a version of doom scrolling to find the malefactors.
@juddlegum MUSK: “Rules? Nah, bro, just vibes.”
@juddlegum Time to say goodbye to Elon (formerly known as Twitter).
@cowboyminer @juddlegum good point… it is now Elon. Twitter died some time ago.
@juddlegum ridiculous way to run a business

@juddlegum

Selective enforcement is, of course, a main component of the ruling strategy in authoritarian systems which still need (for whatever reason, in whatever context) to have the legalistic fig leaf of justice and ethics:

@juddlegum doesn't even matter if they are poorly defined, he can just change them if someone believes they found a workaround.
@juddlegum Who knew Twitter's God was such a small man?
@juddlegum I think he's trying to make a statement.
@juddlegum Twitter finally settled on promotion of competitors for why they suspended @taylorlorenz after Musk said in an email it was about doxxing and even though the suspension was BEFORE there was anything like that policy published.
@juddlegum Calvinball is a lot more fun than this.
@juddlegum Except you can’t. I tried to send a message in dms to a friend and all I said was I’m on newsie.social and it wouldn’t allow the message in the dm to post.
@juddlegum Does this mean I won't be suspended like cool kids?
@juddlegum Wait, what is Calvinball? My name is Calvin
@juddlegum Calvinball is the PERFECT way to describe the way Musk is running Twitter. Wish I thought of that.

@juddlegum There's already tools to circumvent this silly policy. Like this one that shortens URLs to places like Mastodon and other banned sources for Birdsite consumption.

Free speech really should be free. To bypass the new censorship regime at twitter, use this URL shortener to link to Mastodon or other censored destinations. Considering recent policy decisions on twitter, please be aware that use of links generated from this site may constitute a violation of their policy.
